MARGIE SMELLER is a local artist and lifelong resident of Frederick County. She went to Linganore High School where her art teachers encouraged her to pursue her art. She did so by joining the artists at Art Enables in Washington D.C. They have shown her work at their gallery and in shows from New York to Chicago. Margie has also held her own show at the Katayama Gallery in Portland Oregon in conjunction with eleven photographers from the Portland area whose photographs she used as inspiration. She joined The Artists’ Gallery to help anchor her work in Frederick.
In general, Margie likes to make colorful art. She deconstructs a scene and usually presents a subject from multiple perspectives. She sees the world through the eyes of a person with Down Syndrome but more to the point as an artist named Margie Smeller.
